Cook Political Report shifts key US Senate and House races toward Democrats

The Cook Political Report has issued significant updates to its electoral forecasts, shifting several key races toward the Democratic Party. In the Kansas Senate race, the contest has moved from “Lean Republican” to “Toss Up.” Incumbent Republican Senator Roger Marshall currently holds a narrow 0.4% lead over challenger Adam Hamilton. Analysts suggest the shift is influenced by controversies surrounding Marshall, including reports that he sued 700 patients for unpaid medical bills, as well as broader economic concerns regarding fuel prices and the cost of living.

In the House of Representatives, the Cook Political Report shifted 18 races to the left, including four seats held by Republican incumbents that moved from “Toss Up” to “Lean Democrat.” The report notes that despite massive Republican advertising campaigns, polling for President Donald Trump has declined, particularly regarding the economy and the impact of the war in Iran on gas prices. The updated forecast suggests Democrats could potentially pick up between nine and 19 seats in the House.
