Cookie shops Chip City and Captain Cookie close in Arlington

Multiple cookie shops have closed in Arlington, Virginia, as local businesses face economic pressures. Chip City has shuttered its locations in Clarendon, Shirlington, and Tysons, part of a broader nationwide contraction for the New York-based company. Archived data indicates Chip City's footprint has decreased from 39 locations across six states in June to 24 locations in New Jersey, New York, and Texas.

Additionally, Captain Cookie & the Milkman has closed its Courthouse location. The business previously cited rising costs for labor, utilities, insurance, and supplies as primary reasons for its inability to maintain sufficient revenue. While the Arlington branch is closed, the chain maintains two locations in Washington, D.C.

In response to these closures, MidnighTreats in Ballston Quarter has announced it will honor Chip City gift cards and coupons through October 14 and is actively recruiting former Chip City employees.
