Cooking robot debuts at Munich gas station

A cooking robot named ‘emma’ has been deployed at an Allguth gas station in Munich-Giesing, marking the first publicly accessible cooking robot in the Bavarian capital. Developed by the Hamburg-based food technology company Goodbytz, the autonomous system is capable of preparing up to eight different dishes, including Käsespätzle, Udon noodles, and Tom Kha Gai soup, in approximately five minutes.

The robot operates 24/7, offering a range of vegan, vegetarian, and meat-based options. While the mechanical arms handle the cooking and garnishing processes, human intervention is still required to prepare ingredients, refill supplies, and clean the machine.

Similar technology is already in use at locations such as Leipzig Main Station, the University of Kaiserslautern, and the University Hospital in Tübingen. Competitors like the Circus Group also provide robotic cooking systems, which are reportedly used in the Meta canteen. The Bavarian Hotel and Restaurant Association views the technology as a potential tool to relieve staff and increase efficiency, though it currently remains a niche solution rather than a widespread industry standard.
