Cooking techniques for preparing fried eggs

Various culinary methods and ingredient substitutions are being highlighted to improve the texture and flavor of fried eggs while potentially reducing fat intake.

One technique involves using a small amount of oil combined with water in a covered pan. The resulting steam cooks the top of the egg, allowing the whites to firm up while keeping the yolk creamy without excessive grease. Another popular variation suggests using light sesame oil instead of butter or olive oil to provide a nutty, toasted aroma. When using sesame oil, it is recommended to use the light variety for frying to avoid bitterness, or to drizzle toasted sesame oil over the finished dish.

For a faster, fat-free alternative, eggs can be prepared in a microwave using a small bowl and a bit of water. To prevent the egg from bursting due to pressure buildup, it is advised to gently pierce the yolk with a toothpick before heating.
