Cooperativa Algodonera de La Banda workers strike over unpaid wages

Workers at the Cooperativa Algodonera de La Banda have initiated industrial action due to unpaid wages following the recent end of the cotton campaign. According to Luis Paz, general secretary of the Sindicato de Desmotadores, management claimed a lack of funds to settle outstanding payments.

In addition to unpaid wages, employees reported that they have been without health insurance for several years. There are also allegations that the cooperative has failed to make required pension and union contributions. Union representatives have expressed concerns regarding the legality of the current administration, noting that management has failed to provide documentation to substantiate their ownership claims despite legal requirements for cooperatives.
