Cooperativa Piá suspends production amid financial crisis

Cooperativa Piá, a traditional dairy manufacturer based in Nova Petrópolis, Rio Grande do Sul, has temporarily suspended production at its factory due to a severe financial crisis. The cooperative reportedly faces debts exceeding R$ 200 million.

The suspension is part of operational adjustments made while the company negotiates a potential deal with the Santa Catarina-based dairy company, Tirol. While associates have previously approved a preliminary agreement regarding this operation, final terms have not yet been established.

As a result of the halt, employees have been placed on collective leave, and there is currently no official date for the resumption of production or product supply. The cooperative stated that these measures are necessary to preserve its activities and reorganize operations amidst a challenging economic scenario. The goal of the negotiations with Tirol is to ensure the continuity of the brand and maintain the industrial park in Nova Petrópolis.
