Cooperative projects expand agroecological and social economy initiatives in Catalonia
Two distinct cooperative initiatives in Catalonia are advancing local production and social economy models.
In Calaf, the Territori de Masies cooperative is presenting a project for a new organic flour workshop. The facility will include a flour mill, a bagging and labeling area, and a warehouse. This infrastructure aims to process local cereals into organic flour, strengthening the link between regional agricultural production and local consumption while recovering the cereal culture of the Baix Solsonès region.
In Barcelona, the L’Economat Social cooperative has launched a crowdfunding campaign to open its third store in the Sants-Badal neighborhood. The new location will share space with the La Bombeta cooperative housing project. By utilizing the ground floor of a cooperative housing building, the initiative seeks to expand access to agroecological products and create new jobs without relying on the traditional real estate market. The campaign aims to raise 150,000 euros to fund both the store and housing renovations, with an expected opening in early 2027.
