Cooxupé Cooperative Returns R$ 622 Million to Coffee Farmers
The Cooperativa Regional de Cafeicultores em Guaxupé (Cooxupé) began disbursing an additional R$ 622 million to more than 20,000 of its members on 6 August. The payment follows a court ruling that annulled the Funrural tax charge on coffee exports, ending an 11‑year period during which the cooperative had been depositing the funds in escrow while the case was pending. The returned amount will be credited directly to producers in proportion to the volume of coffee each delivered for export.
The settlement resolves a long‑standing dispute over the Funrural levy, which had been deducted from export revenues. By recovering the funds, Cooxupé aims to improve cash flow for its members and reinforce the financial stability of Brazil’s coffee sector.
