Copa América to follow four-year schedule with 2028 return
The Copa América, the premier football competition for South American nations under CONMEBOL, has confirmed it will adhere to a four-year tournament cycle. The next edition is set to take place in 2028, exactly four years after the 2024 tournament held in the United States, which was won by Argentina.
Historically, the competition has seen irregular scheduling over its 110-year existence, with intervals ranging from annual tournaments to eight-year gaps. The shift to a quadrennial format was intended to better align the event with other major continental competitions, such as the UEFA European Championship.
