O’Higgins clinches virtual round‑of‑16 berth in Copa Chile as tournament narrows field
O’Higgins secured a 2‑1 victory over Unión Española at Estadio Santa Laura, with goals from Bastián Yáñez and Arnaldo Castillo, moving the team virtually into the Copa Chile round of 16 pending the outcome of the pending Colo Colo match.
After the fifth round of the 2026 Copa Chile, eight clubs – Coquimbo Unido, Universidad Católica, Ñublense, Colo Colo, O’Higgins, Deportes Antofagasta, Deportes Santa Cruz and another – have qualified for the octavos, while six teams including Cobresal, Universidad de Concepción and Santiago Wanderers have been eliminated.
Former Colo Colo midfielder Branco Provoste, now with Primera B side Deportes Recoleta, scored a penalty in the club’s draw with Colo Colo, recalling his ten‑year spell at the Santiago giants and noting he met his future partner while at the club.
