COPA-Cogeca issues Stockholm Declaration to defend EU agricultural policy
During the 12th European Farmers Congress in Stockholm, major agricultural organizations COPA and Cogeca presented the ‘Stockholm Declaration’. The document serves as a collective appeal to EU heads of state and government to recognize agriculture as a fundamental pillar of European security, defense, and operational readiness.
The declaration outlines six key objectives: establishing agriculture as a pillar of European security and defense; ensuring an adequate budget for a future-proof Common Agricultural Policy (CAP); maintaining the common nature of the CAP; enhancing European competitiveness and market access; respecting agricultural diversity through simplification; and enabling farmers to increase productivity and invest in innovation.
Leaders within the sector, including Confagricoltura president Massimiliano Giansanti, emphasized that current decisions regarding the EU budget and the CAP will determine Europe’s ability to feed its citizens and remain resilient. The declaration has been sent to the presidents of the European Council, the European Commission, and the European Parliament.
