Copacabana hosts 19th March for Religious Freedom

The 19th March for Religious Freedom is taking place on the Copacabana waterfront in Rio de Janeiro. Organized by the Centro de Articulação de Populações Marginalizadas (CEAP) and the Comissão de Combate à Intolerância Religiosa (CCIR), the event serves as a major inter-religious gathering to promote coexistence, respect for diverse beliefs, and the preservation of a secular state.

The march brings together religious leaders, artists, and participants from various traditions across Brazil. The mobilization focuses on combating religious intolerance and advocating for the rights of different faiths. Recent discussions by the GT Antirracista highlighted the importance of these efforts, featuring activist and professor Ivanir dos Santos, a recipient of the International Religious Freedom award from the U.S. Department of State for his work defending practitioners of African-matrix religions in Brazil.
