Copacabana: Woman and child injured by falling structure

A woman and a five-year-old child were injured in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro, after a structure collapsed onto them on Tuesday night. The incident occurred on Avenida Nossa Senhora de Copacabana near Rua Dias da Rocha.

Security footage captured the moment the structure fell. Witnesses reported that the woman and child were walking hand-in-hand when they were struck. Both victims were taken to Hospital Municipal Miguel Couto. The Municipal Health Secretariat stated that the woman is in stable condition with moderate injuries, while the child sustained minor injuries; both are out of danger.

RioLuz clarified that the fallen object was not a light pole, but an optical cabinet belonging to a telecommunications company. The area was cordoned off, and a team was dispatched to remove the equipment to ensure pedestrian safety.
