COPARMEX Coahuila Sureste calls for IMSS reform and labor adaptation

Alfredo López Villarreal, president of COPARMEX Coahuila Sureste, has called for an urgent internal transformation of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) to address a severe crisis involving financial instability, medicine shortages, and inadequate medical services. He emphasized that the federal government, labor unions, and institute authorities must collaborate to implement transparency measures and combat corruption to ensure patients receive proper care.

Additionally, regarding the upcoming reduction of the workweek scheduled for 2027, López Villarreal stated that the business group has requested a 6-to-8-month adaptation period from the Federal Ministry of Labor to avoid immediate penalties. While 70% of the organization's members have conducted pilot tests to manage shifts, the transition is expected to increase company costs by 15% to 20%, with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) being the most affected.

López Villarreal also noted that judicial reform is impacting business decisions, with data showing that 67.8% of surveyed companies reported negative effects on investment or expansion plans due to legal uncertainty.
