Coparmex reports investment decline due to Mexico judicial reform
The Confederation of Employers of the Mexican Republic (Coparmex) reports that the 2024 judicial reform has created legal uncertainty, negatively impacting businesses across Mexico. According to a survey of 3,721 affiliated companies, approximately 30% of businesses have reduced or postponed concrete investment projects due to the changes.
Data from the Coparmex Judicial Monitor indicates that 70% of companies report negative impacts, while only 3.6% identify positive effects. Furthermore, nearly 40% of companies are acting with increased caution regarding new projects. The reform has also prompted a shift in legal strategies, with over 80% of surveyed businesses modifying their approaches to protect property, contracts, and access to legal protection.
Specifically, 55.9% of companies believe there has been a decrease in legal certainty regarding contract fulfillment and property protection. Coparmex has called for a technical agenda and dialogue to address these concerns, emphasizing the need for a justice system that maintains judicial independence and the rule of law while addressing issues like corruption and inefficiency.
