Coparmex Tijuana urges firms to adapt to Mexico's 40‑hour work week

Coparmex Tijuana organized the forum “La Nueva Era Laboral en México 2026,” gathering more than 120 companies, business leaders, labor‑law specialists and union representatives in Tijuana. Participants examined the upcoming reduction of the standard workday to 40 hours, the new “Ley Silla,” and other labor‑reform measures, assessing their impact on productivity, talent development and Mexico’s competitiveness under the T‑MEC framework.

The organization warned that firms must redesign work schedules and amend contracts by January 2027, stressing that lack of planning is the main obstacle. Elisa Ibáñez Aldana, president of Coparmex Tijuana, said the reforms are a “new reality” and that companies that adapt quickly will maintain competitiveness. María Luisa Ayala Vargas, president of the National Association of Business Lawyers, Baja California, highlighted the need to adjust internal regulations, monitor productivity and implement electronic record‑keeping to comply with the new rules.
