Coparmex urges INE to strengthen oversight for 2026-2027 elections
The Mexican Employers Confederation (Coparmex) has called on the National Electoral Institute (INE) to strengthen oversight and verification mechanisms ahead of the 2026-2027 federal electoral process.
The business organization expressed concern regarding recent INE decisions that reduce certain verification tools. Specifically, Coparmex questioned the removal of mechanisms to identify federal social program workers who might act as electoral observers, despite existing prohibitions on their participation.
Additionally, the group highlighted concerns regarding “boletas planchadas” (flat ballots) found in urns, noting that the lack of verification for these could undermine election reliability. Coparmex emphasized that robust institutions are necessary to prevent irregularities and protect the integrity of the upcoming large-scale election.
