Coparmex urges Mexico to improve spending to attract investment

The Confederation of Employers of the Mexican Republic (Coparmex) has called for improved public spending and increased fiscal discipline to attract private investment in Mexico. The business group's recommendations align with recent guidance from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Coparmex emphasized the need to optimize public resources by reviewing low-impact programs, eliminating duplications, and directing funds toward infrastructure and productivity-enhancing projects. To manage fiscal risks, the organization proposed the creation of an Independent Fiscal Council with technical autonomy to monitor budget assumptions and public debt evolution.

To foster investment, Coparmex highlighted the necessity of legal certainty, clear regulations, and reliable dispute resolution mechanisms. The group warned that regulatory changes and business uncertainty could hinder new projects. While the IMF projects Mexican economic growth of 1.5% in 2026 and 1.8% in 2027, Coparmex noted these figures remain insufficient to fully capitalize on nearshoring opportunities and global economic integration.
