COPARMEX warns of risks to Mexican electoral integrity

Leaders of the Mexican Employers and Business Confederation (COPARMEX) have expressed concerns regarding the integrity of upcoming electoral processes and the potential reduction of oversight mechanisms.

In Querétaro, Beatriz Hernández Rojas warned that eliminating controls could create uncertainty and undermine citizen will. She specifically highlighted risks such as the lack of verification regarding public servants acting as electoral observers and the possibility of fraudulent voting practices. COPARMEX Querétaro plans to implement its ‘Participo, Voto e Incido’ strategy for 2027 to promote democratic culture and citizen observation.

In Chihuahua, Jorge Treviño Portilla addressed the challenges of protecting elections from organized crime. He noted that current regulations are often bypassed by candidates, such as using book interviews to circumvent electoral bans. Portilla emphasized the need for clear, common-sense rules enforced by the INE and the PGR to prevent ‘narco-politicians’ from participating and to ensure that regulations do not become ‘dead rules’ that are easily ignored.
