Copeco aid distribution shows discrepancies in Honduras

An investigation by ICN Investiga has revealed discrepancies in the distribution of humanitarian aid by Honduras' National Contingency and Risk Management Secretariat (Copeco). Following the October 2025 rains, 40,578 units of aid—including food rations, blankets, and kits—were purchased using 47.4 million lempiras under an emergency decree.

Records indicate that 6,125 items were delivered to seven communities that had no official reports of damage. Additionally, 27,153 items were distributed to various institutions, churches, and individuals without specific destination details in the delivery logs. Only 13 of the 491 neighborhoods and villages officially registered as affected by the rains were identified as recipients of the assistance.
