Copel updates regulations for Christmas decorations on utility poles

Copel has updated its Technical Standard (NTC) 855902, which regulates the sharing of utility poles and defines the permitted use of these structures. The new guidelines specifically address the installation of Christmas and New Year decorations by municipalities within Copel’s concession area.

According to the updated rules, holiday ornaments may be attached to poles provided they are made of non-conductive materials and adhere to specific dimensional requirements. Installations are restricted to the public lighting arm of the pole. Furthermore, decorations are strictly prohibited on structures containing electrical equipment, such as transformers, switches, or capacitor banks.

To ensure safety, municipalities or companies must contact Copel in advance to formalize requests via official letter. Projects must include a Technical Responsibility Note (ART) to guarantee professional oversight. The standard also prohibits the attachment of banners, loudspeakers, cameras, radars, or similar devices to the poles under these sharing conditions. Direct painting or adhesive application is only permitted for public street identification within a specific height range.
