Copenhagen Airport hits record passenger numbers amid expansion plans

Copenhagen Airport has reported record-breaking passenger numbers for the first half of the year, with 16.1 million travelers passing through the hub. This represents a 9 percent increase compared to the same period last year and marks the highest number of passengers ever recorded for a six-month period.

Driven by strong global demand and a 31 percent surge in transfer passengers, the airport has raised its profit forecast. Revenue rose by 9 percent to 2.8 billion Danish kroner, while pre-tax profit increased by 43 percent to 851 million Danish kroner. CEO Christian Poulsen noted that the growth in transfer traffic is vital for maintaining direct routes to various global destinations.

To accommodate this rising capacity, MT Højgaard has won the tender for the first phase of the ‘Baggage Factory East’ project. The construction firm will collaborate with Artelia and ZESO Architects to design and develop the new facility. The total estimated contract value for the project is 450 million Danish kroner, with the second phase of construction expected to begin in the third quarter of 2027. The new facility will include a long connection bridge to existing baggage infrastructure to support the airport’s expanding operational needs.
