Copenhagen Atomics to relocate headquarters to Zug, Switzerland
Danish nuclear reactor developer Copenhagen Atomics is planning to relocate its headquarters from Copenhagen to the Canton of Zug, Switzerland. The company specializes in the development of small, factory-produced reactors designed to run primarily on thorium, which produces significantly less long-lived nuclear waste.
Concrete steps toward the relocation are already underway. The company has registered a new entity, Zug Atomics AG, in the commercial register in Zug. Furthermore, Copenhagen Atomics is currently recruiting for several leadership positions based in Zug, including a Chief Financial Officer and a Sales Manager.
The move is reportedly driven by economic considerations and a desire to avoid the difficult regulatory environment for emerging technology firms within the European Union. The company is already collaborating with the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) on a test facility in Villigen, Aargau, with hopes of obtaining permits for an initial test reactor by 2028.
