Copenhagen demonstrations lead to clashes between political groups

Clashes broke out in Copenhagen as opposing political groups held demonstrations on Østerbro. A right-wing march organized by the group ‘Det Danske Folk’ focused on themes of Danish culture, national cohesion, and opposition to religious social control. While organizers had hoped for much larger crowds, estimates of participants ranged from approximately 500 to 700 people.

The event saw the involvement of masked, black-clad hooligans and representatives from various far-right groups. These individuals reportedly attacked participants of an anti-racism counter-demonstration organized by groups including the ‘Fællesinitiativet mod Racisme og Diskrimination’. Police were forced to use batons to manage the unrest during the confrontations.

Participants in the right-wing march expressed support for Danish values, with some attendees stating that there is ‘too much consideration being given to Muslims’ and asserting that all residents should simply follow Danish rules.
