Copenhagen extends CopenPay sustainable tourism program
Copenhagen is extending its CopenPay initiative, a program designed to reward tourists and residents for engaging in sustainable behaviors. Originally launched as a summer campaign, the project will become active year-round starting in June 2026.
Participants can earn rewards such as free or discounted access to museums, local tours, bike rentals, and specialized gastronomic offers by performing positive environmental actions. These actions include using public transport or bicycles, collecting litter, or choosing vegetarian meals. According to Jonas Lovschall-Wedel of Wonderful Copenhagen, the program has already seen significant engagement, with approximately 30,000 participants in its first two years and a 98% recommendation rate among users.
The initiative also aims to promote local discovery by guiding visitors toward lesser-known neighborhoods and eco-friendly activities, such as electric boat tours and visits to rooftop farms.
