Copenhagen mayor Jakob Næsager urges new teacher and pedagogy students to stay in the capital

Copenhagen’s child‑ and youth mayor Jakob Næsager welcomed the record‑high intake for teacher and pedagogy programmes this September. A total of 2,192 students were admitted to teacher training, a rise of seven percent compared with the previous year, while 3,590 entered pedagogy studies, roughly unchanged. Næsager highlighted the city’s investment in strong workplaces, professional development and leadership, stressing the importance of retaining these graduates in Copenhagen after they finish their studies.

He praised the students for choosing a career that supports children and young people and said the municipality will continue to create attractive employment conditions to keep the new generation of teachers and pedagogues in the capital.

The enrollment figures reflect a two‑percent overall growth in the four major welfare‑related programmes nationwide.
