Copenhagen named top liveable city in 2026, Vienna ranks seventh in sexual liberalism

The Economist Intelligence Unit’s Global Liveability Index for 2026 placed Copenhagen at the top with a score of 98 out of 100, citing maximum marks for stability, education and infrastructure and high scores in health and culture. Vienna (Beč) was ranked seventh on the Sexual Liberal City Index, earning 53.1 points and trailing Amsterdam, Vancouver and Manchester. The liveability ranking also listed Damascus as the world’s least liveable city with 32 points, followed by Tripoli and Dhaka.

Both reports highlight regional disparities: European cities dominate the upper tiers, while cities in conflict‑affected regions score low due to war, political instability and poverty. The sexual liberal index evaluates legal status of sex work, LGBT rights, contraception access, anti‑discrimination protections and the presence of related venues and events.
