Copenhagen police investigate allegations of violence against journalists
Copenhagen police have launched an investigation following allegations of violence against two photojournalists during weekend protests in Denmark. The incidents occurred during demonstrations regarding the repatriation of migrants and subsequent counter-protests at two locations in the capital.
According to reports, a photographer from the tabloid Ekstra Bladet alleged they were struck with a baton while covering the event. Similarly, a photographer from Politiken reported receiving multiple baton strikes that resulted in a destroyed camera and required a visit to the emergency room.
The Copenhagen police stated they have requested the Independent Police Complaints Authority (DUP) to investigate the cases. While acknowledging the difficulties of policing violent street confrontations, the police emphasized their commitment to ensuring conditions that protect freedom of assembly, expression, and the ability of the press to perform its duties.
