Copenhagen tops 2026 Global Liveability Index as World's Most Livable City

Copenhagen, Denmark, was ranked first in the 2026 Global Liveability Index released by the Economist Intelligence Unit, scoring 98 points. The index highlighted the city’s high-quality public services, efficient public transport, modern infrastructure, robust healthcare, and strong security. European and Australian cities dominate the top ten, with Vienna (Austria), Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide (Australia), Zurich and Geneva (Switzerland), Osaka and Tokyo (Japan), and Vancouver (Canada) also featuring. The ranking underscored that social and economic stability, along with well‑developed public amenities, are key drivers of urban livability, while many cities in the Middle East, Africa and parts of Asia rank lower due to political instability and limited public services.
