Copenhagen's Noma to reopen on Aug. 5 without founder René Redzepi
Denmark’s iconic Noma restaurant will reopen in Copenhagen on August 5, 2026, but its founder and celebrity chef René Redzepi will not be in charge. Redzepi announced in March that he was stepping away after a series of abuse and assault allegations dating back more than a decade.
The kitchen will be led by executive head chef Pablo Soto, who said the restaurant will adopt a new, constantly changing menu that emphasizes seasonal ingredients. Noma will also be without its three Michelin stars, the third of which was awarded in 2021, and the venue will not appear in the 2026 Michelin Guide. The restaurant, which has topped the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list five times, closed in January ahead of a Los Angeles pop‑up and remained shut for most of the year.
Redzepi, now serving as creative director, posted an apology and a video on Instagram expressing excitement for the “fresh energy” the new team will bring.
