Coperion workers strike following layoff announcement
Workers at Coperion srl have launched a strike and protest following the company's decision to proceed with collective layoffs and the cessation of its activities in Italy. The multinational firm notified its 80 employees of the termination procedures in July, a move described by union representatives as unexpected.
Despite bipartisan motions from municipal authorities and efforts by the Emilia-Romagna Region to secure a safeguard table—which initially extended operations until March 2027—the company confirmed on September 1 that it would not withdraw the layoffs or appoint an advisor for a business sale.
Representatives from the CGIL, Cisl, and Uil unions participated in the protest. Union officials have attributed the decision to the Lone Star fund, which acquired Coperion in January, characterizing the fund as a speculative entity.
