Copersucar reports major decarbonization progress in 25/26 harvest

Copersucar has released its Sustainability Report for the 25/26 harvest, highlighting significant progress in decarbonization and renewable energy. The company reported record ethanol sales in Brazil and the United States, which prevented the emission of 30 million tons of CO2 equivalent—a volume comparable to the annual emissions of over 14 million gasoline-powered vehicles.

A major milestone was achieved in maritime transport, where a transoceanic container ship was fueled with ethanol at the Port of Santos in July 2026. This application could potentially reduce CO2 emissions by 70% to 80% compared to traditional fossil fuels used in shipping.

Additionally, the company saw a 150% increase in biomethane usage, totaling 6.5 million cubic meters. This shift in logistics and industrial operations replaced 6 million liters of diesel, avoiding 15,000 tons of CO2 equivalent emissions. The report also noted the generation of 6,500 GWh of renewable electricity from biomass, representing 10% of all biomass-generated electricity in Brazil.
