Copertino man arrested after hospital damage and barracks break-in attempt

A 32-year-old man from Copertino has been arrested following a series of violent incidents in Puglia. After reportedly causing damage to the Galatina hospital, the individual attempted to break into a Carabinieri barracks in a state of psychological and physical alteration.

According to authorities, the man climbed the barracks fence and repeatedly struck the glass entrance door with his head and fists. During the subsequent struggle to contain him, the man allegedly threatened officers and damaged furniture and walls. Following a physical altercation that resulted in injuries, medical personnel administered sedative therapy. The man was arrested on charges of resistance to a public official and serious personal injury, and has been transferred to the Lecce prison.
