Copiapó court sentences man for drowning five puppies

The Oral Criminal Court of Copiapó has sentenced D. A. J. J. for animal cruelty following the death of five puppies in the Amolanas sector of Tierra Amarilla. The incident occurred on January 24, when the defendant reportedly drowned the animals in a bucket of water.

The court imposed a sentence of 61 days of imprisonment. However, at the request of the defense, the prison sentence was substituted with conditional remission. This allows the defendant to serve the sentence in freedom under the supervision of Gendarmería for one year, during which he must maintain a fixed residence and report periodically.

Additionally, the court issued a lifetime ban prohibiting the individual from having animals under his care. Failure to comply with the judicial resolution or attempting to care for animals could result in new legal charges, including contempt of court.
