Copiapó prosecutor orders investigation after fatal motorcycle crash

A 47‑year‑old motorcyclist was killed on the road linking Copiapó and Tierra Amarilla in Chile's Atacama region. The rider collided with the rear of a van, lost balance and was struck by a truck traveling in the same direction.

Regional prosecutor Christian González Carriel arrived at the scene, joined by SIAT personnel from Carabineros, and ordered immediate investigative diligences to determine the accident dynamics and any driver responsibility. The prosecutor’s office will also contact the victim’s family through the Victims and Witness Support Unit.

González Carriel called on the community to practice responsible driving, maintain appropriate speeds and stay alert to road conditions to prevent similar tragedies.
