Copper Country weather reports typical August with below-normal rainfall
August in the Copper Country was characterized by relatively quiet and typical weather patterns. According to National Weather Service Meteorologist Lily Chapman, precipitation levels for the month ran well below normal, with no reporting location recording more than three inches of rainfall.
Temperatures were largely as expected. The month began with near-normal temperatures before trending slightly below normal mid-month. Baraga recorded the highest temperature of the month at 85 degrees on August 4, while also recording the lowest temperature at 39 degrees on August 24.
Other notable temperature readings included 82 degrees at the Houghton County Airport and 84 degrees in Kearsarge. Wind gusts reached up to 41 mph in Pequaming during storms on August 7 and 8.
