Coquimbo Region hosts “Océano” environmental street theater tour
The regional parade “Océano” has concluded its tour through the Coquimbo Region, visiting La Serena, Combarbalá, and Illapel. Funded by the Coquimbo Regional Government, the initiative used street theater and large-scale visual displays to promote environmental awareness regarding ocean protection, plastic waste reduction, and recycling.
The production featured a 12-meter-long articulated blue whale and over 20 marine species constructed from recycled materials, such as plastic bags and polycarbonate scraps. Directed by Juan Ibáñez, the performance follows a narrative about a shipwrecked man who discovers the beauty of marine life and advocates for the defense of the ecosystem.
