Coquimbo Region viticulturists advised to mitigate rain and sediment damage

Specialists from INIA Intihuasi have issued recommendations to viticulturists in the Coquimbo Region to mitigate damage caused by recent heavy rains. Following inspections at the Vicuña Biodiversity Study Center, experts identified significant issues caused by water runoff and sediment accumulation, which clogged irrigation channels and raised ground levels.

Francisco Meza, regional director of INIA Intihuasi, advised that producers must reinforce river defenses and drainage systems to prevent future flooding and sediment buildup. Additionally, removing accumulated stones and debris from vineyards is necessary to maintain productivity and ensure machinery can access the fields.
