Coquimbo schools resume services following heavy rainfall
Educational services in the Coquimbo region of Chile have stabilized following intense rainfall and weather systems that caused infrastructure damage and accessibility issues.
In the Puerto Cordillera area, the Local Public Education Service (SLEP) reports that 100% of its 58 establishments are providing educational services. While 56 schools are operating in person, two—Escuela Domingo Santa María González in Andacollo and Escuela Totoralillo—are currently utilizing online modalities due to road accessibility problems and perimeter security repairs.
Similarly, in La Higuera, the SLEP Elqui has confirmed full operational capacity after emergency repairs to roofs and electrical systems. Schools such as Colegio Pedro Pablo Muñoz and Jardín Infantil Capullitos have resumed activities despite facing leaks and mud accumulation. Local authorities are also implementing socio-emotional support for students and families affected by the recent storms.
