Chilean Liga de Primera title race intensifies after major upsets
The Chilean Liga de Primera title race has intensified following significant results in round 24. Coquimbo Unido secured a dominant 5-2 victory over league leaders Colo Colo, while Universidad de Chile defeated Ñublense 6-0. These results have narrowed the gap at the top, with Universidad de Chile now sitting in second place with 45 points, just nine points behind Colo Colo, who remains in first with 54 points.
Universidad de Chile’s victory was highlighted by a double from Maximiliano Guerrero, who also celebrated reaching his 100th official match with the club. Meanwhile, the defeat for Colo Colo has raised questions regarding the performance of their goalkeeper and the team's momentum heading into the final six matches of the season.
Logistical challenges are also affecting the league. The Metropolitan Presidential Delegation rejected several venues for the Copa de la Liga final between Coquimbo Unido and O’Higgins due to weather concerns, security deployments, and scheduled mass events at the Estadio Nacional, including concerts by BTS and Iron Maiden. Additionally, Universidad de Chile may face extended periods away from their home stadium due to the impact of these large-scale events on the pitch.
