Coral Beach Resort Sharjah launches Emirate's first hotel biodigester

Coral Beach Resort Sharjah has become the first hotel in the Emirate of Sharjah to commission and operate a biodigester that converts on‑site kitchen food waste into nutrient‑rich greywater. The system uses natural microorganisms and oxygen to break down organic waste, cutting landfill disposal and methane emissions while providing water for irrigating the resort’s gardens and green spaces.

The initiative is part of the Sharjah Commerce & Tourism Development Authority’s Food Waste Carbon Pilot Implementation and supports the emirate’s broader sustainable tourism goals. “I am proud that Coral Beach Resort Sharjah is the first hotel in Sharjah to commission and operate this innovative biodigester technology,” said Iftikhar Hamdani, Area General Manager of the resort. The project builds on the resort’s existing environmental programmes, including an on‑site water bottling plant, an organic garden and extensive energy‑ and water‑conservation measures.
