Corato worker dies after 48 days following workplace accident
Cataldo Modugno, a 54-year-old worker who had been employed at the Molini Casillo plant in Corato for nearly forty years, has died following a workplace accident on August 26. After being found by colleagues in critical condition with a severe head injury, Modugno was rushed to the Bonomo Hospital in Andria, where he underwent three surgeries and spent 48 days in intensive care. He passed away without regaining consciousness.
The Trani Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation into the incident, with the working hypothesis of manslaughter. Carabinieri and Spesal technicians are working to reconstruct the dynamics of the accident to determine how the head trauma occurred, as there were no direct witnesses to the moment of injury. An autopsy will be conducted at the Institute of Legal Medicine in Bari to establish the link between the injury and the death. The victim's family has publicly called for clarity regarding the circumstances of the accident.
