Coravin funds coral reef restoration near Zanzibar

Coravin, a company specializing in wine preservation systems, has announced a partnership to support the restoration of coral reefs near Mnemba Island, off the coast of Zanzibar, Tanzania. Through the sale of its limited edition ‘Timeless Six+ Ocean Blue’ devices, a portion of the proceeds will fund marine ecosystem recovery efforts.

In collaboration with the African biodiversity organization Tusk and Oceans Without Borders, the initiative aims to restore approximately 1,000 square meters of coral reef damaged by rising ocean temperatures and coral bleaching. The twelve-month program involves installing 1,000 ‘Reef Stars’—structures fixed to the seabed—to support the transplantation of between 6,000 and 7,000 coral colonies.

The project also includes training for local personnel in marine conservation, involving local staff in the monitoring and restoration of the reefs and the management of land-based nurseries.
