Corbin Burnes expected to return to Diamondbacks rotation Tuesday

Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo indicated that pitcher Corbin Burnes is most likely to return to the mound this Tuesday. Burnes has not pitched in the Major Leagues since June 2025, following Tommy John surgery and a subsequent teres major strain that delayed his recovery timeline.

Burnes, who signed a six-year, $210 million contract with Arizona prior to the 2025 season, is expected to pitch approximately 60 pitches in his return. The Diamondbacks are currently in a tight race for the National League Wild Card spot, holding a half-game lead over the San Diego Padres.

If Burnes can gradually increase his workload through his remaining scheduled starts, the team hopes he will be prepared for a full postseason rotation. Additionally, Lovullo noted that Michael Soroka and Zac Gallen have been throwing in simulated games, suggesting further reinforcement for the pitching staff.
