Corbin Burnes scheduled for Triple-A rehab assignment

Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Corbin Burnes is scheduled to begin a Triple-A rehab assignment with Reno this Saturday. This marks his first minor league appearance since 2019 following Tommy John surgery, which sidelined him after just 11 starts in his initial season with the team.

Burnes, who signed a six-year, $210 million contract with Arizona, faced additional delays due to a shoulder issue during his recovery. While he may return to major league action as early as the September 4-6 series against the Houston Astros, he is expected to pitch limited innings, likely around three, as he ramps up his workload. Despite having an opt-out clause at the end of the 2026 season, analysts suggest he is unlikely to leave the organization given the remaining years on his deal.

Additionally, fellow right-hander Zac Gallen is also progressing toward a return after being placed on the injured list in July due to elbow inflammation.
