Cordoba neighborhoods rank among Spain's poorest

Residents of the South District in Cordoba have expressed indignation following the release of the 2026 Urban Indicators by the National Statistics Institute (INE). The report identifies the Guadalquivir, Azahara-Las Palmeras, and Sector Sur neighborhoods as being among the 15 poorest areas in Spain.

Guadalquivir is ranked as the eighth poorest neighborhood in the country, with a net income of 9,740 euros per inhabitant in 2024. Azahara-Las Palmeras follows as the ninth poorest (9,751 euros), and Sector Sur is the thirteenth (10,418 euros). These rankings remain unchanged from previous data.

Juan Moreno, president of the South District Council, described the situation as “denigrante” (degrading) and called on administrations to conduct an in-depth diagnosis. He specifically requested the implementation of workshop schools and trade houses for local youth to combat unemployment and insecurity. Cordoba Mayor José María Bellido acknowledged that the City Council must make more effort to close the wealth gap, though he noted improvements in per capita income and the Gini index since 2019.
