Corfu faces teacher shortages and new student transport procurement

The Corfu Regional Unit has initiated a Dynamic Purchasing System (DPS) to manage student transportation needs for the upcoming school years 2026-2027, 2027-2028, and 2028-2029. This electronic procurement process allows economic operators to submit participation applications until September 22, 2026. The system is designed to remain open to eligible entities until August 31, 2029.

Simultaneously, the Corfu branch of the Secondary Teachers' Association (ELME) has raised alarms regarding critical staffing shortages ahead of the new school year. Reports indicate 201 functional vacancies across general and special education, a number expected to rise once classes begin. ELME is calling for immediate coverage of these positions and has warned against using class mergers or reductions as a solution to the shortage.
