Corfu kindergarten closes following property owner eviction

The 5th kindergarten in Corfu has been forced to close following a court decision in favor of the property owner. The Single-Member Court of First Instance of Corfu issued decision 378/4-9-2026, granting the owner the right to dispose of the property as they see fit.

The dispute dates back to 2018, when the owner reportedly informed successive municipal administrations of their intention not to renew the lease. Despite efforts by three consecutive municipal authorities to extend the contract, the legal battle concluded with the owner changing the locks in the presence of a judicial officer.

The closure affects approximately 28 children in the Mon Repos area. To prevent a disruption in childcare and daily routines for parents, the municipal authority has taken steps to relocate the children to other kindergartens within the municipality. Local council member Spyros Nerantzis noted that while efforts were made to delay the eviction, the municipality failed to reach a definitive solution over the eight-year period.
