Corfu temperatures reach 40°C amid North African heatwave

Temperatures in Corfu and Paxos reached significant highs on Friday, August 28, driven by hot air masses from North Africa and the central Mediterranean. The meteorological station at Corfu Ioannis Kapodistrias Airport recorded a maximum temperature of 40.0°C.

Other notable readings included 38.9°C at Gouvia Marina and 38.4°C at Ieromonachos, Paxos. The heat index, or perceived temperature, was even higher, reaching 43.2°C at Gouvia Marina and 41.8°C at Ieromonachos. The combination of high temperatures, humidity, and African dust created stifling conditions in several areas. Northwest winds with gusts up to 5–6 Beaufort also affected the Northern Ionian region.
