Corigliano citizens form committee to protest Sibari-Bolzano Frecciarossa cancellation

A new citizen committee, including associations, unions, and local residents, has been established in Corigliano to oppose the planned suppression of the Frecciarossa Sibari-Bolzano high-speed train service.

The cancellation, reportedly scheduled around December 13, is being attributed to maintenance work on the Santomarco tunnel. Protesters argue that the timing is particularly damaging as it coincides with the Christmas holiday period, a critical time for regional travel and revenue.

Critics of the decision claim that RFI, the Calabria Region, and Trenitalia have failed to respect the mobility rights of citizens in the Ionian area. They note that standard practice for railway maintenance typically involves providing substitute transport services rather than complete service suppression. While regional transport official Gianluca Gallo mentioned a potential future route connecting Sibari to Milan and Turin, the committee maintains that the immediate loss of the existing high-speed link is an unjust decision that requires intervention from regional leadership.
